Here are some tip on cleaning
the back panel. First I soak it
in a gentle soap (a Windex
knock off).
I scrub it up with an array of
brushes (toothbrush, 1/2 in
wide paint brush).
Note the two round paper
labels on the back (UL sticker,
and an inspection sticker). Do
not scrub paper labels with
anything... they will come off.
Work around them. When you
rinse the panel, rise with a
gentle water flow or mist
nozzle. When you dry the
panel, blot the labels dry
(direct pressure with a tissue).
Do nut rub or blow dry.
Do not get water in the
antenna.
After it has dried, put a coat of wax
on it. Again... work around the
labels.
Buff the wax off with a soft
cloth. Use a clean dry
toothbrush to buff the wax
from tight spots.
I use a socket (9mm or
11/32), adaptor, and a drill
to clean the RCA plugs.
Place a small amount of
polish on the strip of cloth
and place it over the
socket. Press the socket
over the RCA and give it a
short spin.
The polish I use is
intended for buffing
finishes such as lacquer,
shellac, and hard oil
finishes (like tung oil). It is
water soluble, gentle, and
very fine.
